ANDREW PIERCE SCOTT
Andrew Pierce Scott (b. 1988) is a London based American artist working across a range of materials and processes, with a particular fascination with metal and how this primordial material can be reexamined through contemporary ways of making. First showcasing his work during Alcova, Milan in 2022, his own process involves creating freehand volumes from pieces of sheet steel welded together, which combine to make sinuous but sturdy objects which belie their standardized and malleable origin as a thin sheet of metal. He is drawn to the back and forth between material and maker, how the steel has a say in the final outcome of the piece; how there is an element of chance involved in the making process, and seeing how the limitations of this malleable material can be overcome.
